Shiva, the guileless God, gave the asura, Bhasmasura, the power to burn any creature alive with his touch. The asuran turns on Shiva and wants to turn him into ashes. While the asuran pursues him, Vishnu rushes to Shiva’s rescue in the form of the ravishing damsel, Mohini. The asuran forgets the chase and is completely enchanted by Mohini. ‘Can I hold you in my arms?’ he asks her. She seductively replies, ‘only if you dance with me.’ He says he doesn’t know how to dance, to which she says, ‘do exactly what I do’ and she begins dancing. The bewitched asuran follows her every move. Mohini proceeds to touch her own head, the Asuran follows suit and instantly burns to ashes. Vishnu uses the power of Maya to save Shiva.
